Job Description: Wyandotte Services, Wyandotte, OK has a future opportunity to provide experienced on site Mechanic for High Voltage Utility Heavy Equipment for a long-term contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), Desert Southwest Region (DSW), Phoenix AZ.

Summary

WAPA is a Power Marketing Administration and part of the Department of Energy (DOE). WAPA manages Federal electric power transmission and markets power across 15 western and central states. WAPA annually markets and transmits more than 10,000 megawatts of power and 37 billion kWh of energy from hydroelectric power plants owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the International Boundary and Water Commission. WAPA’s DSW regional office is located at 615 S 43rd Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona, which will be the primary on-site location during the performance of this contract, with other elements of work being located at various facilities within the region as identified in the PWS.

Scope of Work

Candidate will provide utility equipment maintenance & repair support for DSW. The fleet includes DOE owned vehicles consisting of various utility equipment utilized in the maintenance and construction of high voltage transmission an substation systems, ( i.e., large diesel powered equipment, tractors, insulated aerial man-lifts, digger trucks, trailers, backhoes, dozers, graders, generators and tankers). Work location will be Phoenix, AZ. Additional high voltage utility equipment and fleet maintenance repair and inspection at various DSW field offices and locations in controlled environment and outside in different conditions and locations. Candidate may be required to perform emergency field repairs during inclement weather, along paved and unpaved roads, to include unimproved trails adjacent to transmission line right-of-ways. Work may be performed in archeological historical and other environmentally sensitive/monitored locations that will require special care and consideration. Provide On Call/Call back support.

Candidate will perform and be responsible for:
•repairs and maintenance, which includes repairs to, engines, transmissions, transfer cases, drive trains, air conditioning systems, hydraulic systems, brake systems and electrical systems, tire inspections and document tire defects for corrective action. Vehicle and equipment bodies, such as tailgates, windows, latches, etc., and installation and modification of accessory equipment.
•routine servicing and transporting vehicles to and from repair facilities.
•maintaining vehicles and equipment by changing oil and filters (oil, gas, air), checking and adding to all fluid levels (transmission, differential, transfer case, etc.), parts replacement (wipers, head lamps etc.), tire inspection or replacement, and battery tests, etc. monitoring annual testing of equipment used for personnel and equipment lifting, i.e., cranes, aerial man-lifts (both insulated and non-insulated), boom/winch trucks.

Candidate must have the ability to:
•interact with people within WAPA and outside WAPA that have diverse needs and interest to provide effective customer support.
•to effectively communicate orally and in writing

Experience/Education Requirements

Knowledge and experience of:
•general vehicle maintenance practices for high voltage utility equipment
•automated systems using standard word processing and spreadsheet software
•handling hazardous materials, heavy duty machinery, engines, parts and systems
•mechanical systems that include small engines to heavy-duty diesel equipment with hydraulics, electronics, fiber optics and suspensions, etc.

Candidate is required to:
•have 7-10 years experience performing as a high voltage utility maintenance and mechanic
•be Physically capable of performing vehicle maintenance duties including bending and lifting.
•be Certified for operating and repairing high voltage insulated aerial man-lifts (i.e. Bronto Skylifts, and Condors).
•possess a class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) and be able to drive and operate a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles
•have a Class T endorsement for trailers/tankers endorsement
•have a Class H endorsement for hazardous materials
•be able to read and understand wiring schematics and drawings
•possess certification for brake inspector as required by Department of Transportation (DOT)
•be Certified for Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling.
•be a US Citizen
